When the engine is cold, the fuel pump and injectors work at higher pressure to stabilize the mixture, which creates a specific "clicking" or louder sound similar to a diesel engine. Warm-up Cycle: On a cold start, the ECU (computer) keeps the RPMs slightly higher to circulate the oil and warm up the catalytic converter quickly. This naturally makes the engine sound more aggressive for the first minute or two. Oil Circulation: Like most modern engines, it takes a few moments for the oil to reach the top of the engine and lubricate the hydraulic lifters. Once the oil warms up and flows properly, the friction decreases and the sound levels drop significantly.
